Cruises From New York
Three terminals, one harbor and sailings in every season. For a huge share of the Northeast, the ship is a subway ride or a short drive away.

Tens of millions of people live within a few hours of the harbor, and the city’s cruise terminals handle ships bound for Bermuda, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, New England, Canada and even Europe. If you live in the five boroughs, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, New Jersey or Connecticut, cruises from New York let you skip the airport entirely.
The Three Terminals
Manhattan Cruise Terminal
On the Hudson River at the end of West 48th Street, according to the city’s cruise operator NYC Cruise. Taxis, subway lines and Penn Station are close, which makes it the natural choice for travelers who arrive by rail.
Brooklyn Cruise Terminal
On the Upper Bay in Red Hook, Brooklyn. NYC Cruise describes ample parking and separate bus stalls, so it suits drivers from Long Island, Queens and the outer boroughs.
Cape Liberty Cruise Port
Across the harbor in Bayonne, New Jersey. Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises are the lines most associated with it, and New Jersey and Pennsylvania drivers avoid Manhattan traffic altogether.
Lines and ships move between these terminals from season to season, and in 2026 Virgin Voyages shifted its New York sailings from Manhattan to Brooklyn. Your booking confirmation is the only reliable word on which pier you need.
Where Ships From New York Go, Season by Season
Late spring to early fall is Bermuda season, with five- to seven-night round trips that give you one, two or three days on the island. See our page on cruises from New York to Bermuda.
Late summer and fall bring the New England and Canada sailings: Newport, Boston, Portland, Bar Harbor, Saint John and Halifax, with foliage color from about late September.
Winter and spring are for the Bahamas, Florida and the Caribbean. Longer trips reach the Eastern and Southern Caribbean; shorter ones focus on the Bahamas and a private island. Caribbean Cruise Ports covers the ports you will visit.

There are also occasional transatlantic crossings between New York and Southampton, England, a voyage with a long tradition in this harbor, and repositioning cruises in spring and fall when ships move between seasons.
Getting to the Ship Without Spending Much
- Rail and subway. Travelers from Philadelphia, Washington or Boston can take the train into the city and a short taxi to Manhattan’s piers.
- Drive and park. Reserve terminal parking ahead where the port offers it, or compare off-site lots with shuttles. Weekly parking is still usually far less than flights for two.
- Drop-off. A friend or a ride-share to the pier costs the least of all.
- Arrive the same day. Living close is what lets you skip the hotel. Leave plenty of time for bridge and tunnel traffic.
Bring the documents your itinerary requires; a round trip that stays in the Western Hemisphere has different rules from a crossing to Europe. Cruising Checklist has the full packing and documents list, and Cruising America explains the rules for closed-loop sailings.
New York Cruise Questions
Which cruise terminal in New York is the easiest to reach?
It depends on where you start. Manhattan suits travelers arriving by train or subway; Brooklyn and Cape Liberty are often easier by car for Long Island and New Jersey drivers. Your cruise documents name the terminal, so check before you set out.
Can I cruise from New York in winter?
Yes, some ships sail from the New York area all year, usually heading south to the Bahamas, Florida and the Caribbean in the colder months. Expect a chilly first and last day at sea.
Do terminals in New York change?
They can. In 2026, for example, Virgin Voyages moved its New York departures from Manhattan to Brooklyn. Always confirm the terminal on your booking a few weeks before sailing.
